  4.     The report on how churches search for a new pastor (RELIGION,
  5. Dec. 19) shows that many mainstream Protestant denominations
  6. persist in pursuing liberalism. Apparently pastoral leaders fail
  7. to understand the connection between this liberalism and the 25%
  8. membership loss that has occurred in churches in the past 20 years.
  9. Because we have an oversupply of ordained clergy seeking church
  10. posts, we have overstaffed our administrative positions. We should
  11. focus our attention back on basic parish evangelism.
